IELTS Prep — Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how IELTS Prep (the "App", package id com.ieltsprep), developed and published by Zentryx ("we", "us", "our"), handles your information on Android and iOS. It applies only to IELTS Prep; our other products and website are covered by the Zentryx general Privacy Policy.

1. Summary
IELTS Prep keeps your study data — practice history, drafts, vocabulary progress, and voice recordings — on your device. You can use the app as a guest with no account at all. Creating an optional account (email and password) unlocks AI scoring and keeps your Pro subscription tied to you; that adds a small profile — your email, name, and study preferences — on our secure Supabase backend. The app has no ads, analytics, or tracking, and you can permanently delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
2. Information the App handles
- Account & profile data (only if you sign up): Your email and password (the password is hashed by Supabase Auth and is never visible to us), an optional display name, and your study preferences synced to your profile — exam type, target band, test date, self-assessed level, daily goal, and your study streak. Used to sign you in, unlock AI scoring, and keep your Pro subscription linked to you. Guests provide none of this.
- Study data on your device: Practice history, scores, drafts, mock-test results, vocabulary progress, and settings are stored locally on your device (MMKV). For guests this is the only place your data is kept; it is not synced to our servers.
- Writing & Speaking answers sent for AI scoring: When you request AI feedback, the text of your essay or Speaking transcript (with the practice prompt) is sent to our scoring service, graded, and the result returned. The answer text is not stored afterwards. We keep only minimal usage metadata — the skill and the resulting band, with a timestamp — to manage your AI credits and prevent abuse.
- Voice recordings (on-device only): In the Speaking module you can record your spoken answers for playback and self-review. Recordings are saved locally on your device and are not uploaded. AI scoring works on the typed/edited transcript, not on the audio file.
- Purchase records: If you subscribe, the purchase is processed by Google Play Billing or Apple — we never see your payment details. To verify and protect your subscription, a record of the validated transaction (store, product id, transaction id, status) is stored against your account on our backend.
2.1 What we do not collect
- No analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs are embedded.
- No phone number, postal address, or profile photo is collected; no third-party social logins.
- Your voice recordings never leave your device.
- The text of your AI submissions is not retained and is not used to train AI models.
- We do not sell personal data.
3. Permissions the App requests — and why
IELTS Prep requests only the permissions needed for the features you use. You can revoke any permission at any time in your device settings; the related feature simply stops working.
- Microphone (optional) — Only when you choose to record an answer in the Speaking module. If you decline, you can still type your transcript. Audio is stored on-device and not uploaded.
- Notifications (optional) — To deliver the daily study reminder at the time you choose.
- Internet — Used for optional account sign-in, AI scoring of Writing/Speaking answers, and processing subscriptions through the app store. Practice content otherwise works offline.
4. Third-party services
The App relies on the following third-party services:
- Anthropic Claude (AI scoring) — Grades your Writing and Speaking answers against IELTS band descriptors. Submissions sent through the Anthropic API are not used to train models and are not retained by us. Privacy policy.
- Supabase — Provides account authentication (email/password) and the secure cloud backend that stores your profile, entitlements, and purchase records, and hosts the server functions that validate purchases and relay AI-scoring requests. Your rows are protected by row-level security so only your account can access them. Privacy policy.
- Google Play services — App distribution, updates, and aggregate crash/ANR reports provided by the Google Play Store. Privacy policy.
5. Where your data is stored
Your study data, drafts, and voice recordings are stored locally on your device (MMKV), and your session token is stored securely on-device. If you create an account, your profile, entitlements, and purchase records are stored on our Supabase backend (in Supabase’s cloud), each row protected by row-level security so only you can access it.
6. Data retention & deletion
If you created an account, you can permanently delete it and all associated server-side data from inside the app: Profile → Delete account. To remove data stored locally on your device, reset from the app’s settings or uninstall the app. Full step-by-step instructions are on our dedicated account-deletion page (linked below). The text of AI submissions is never stored, so there is nothing to delete there.

How AI scoring handles your answers
AI feedback is optional and only happens when you tap to score a Writing or Speaking answer, which requires being signed in and having AI credits. At that moment the app sends the answer text and the practice prompt to our scoring service, which relays it to Anthropic’s Claude model and returns a band estimate with feedback.
Your answer text is processed only to produce that score. It is sent over an encrypted connection, is not stored on our servers after the response is returned, and — per the Anthropic API terms — is not used to train AI models. We log only minimal usage metadata (the skill and the resulting band, with a timestamp) to manage your credits and prevent abuse. If you never request AI scoring, no answer data leaves your device.
Microphone & voice recordings
The Speaking module can record your voice so you can play it back and assess your own fluency. These recordings are stored only on your device and are never uploaded. Microphone access is requested at runtime before your first recording, and you can decline and type a transcript instead.
7. Security
We follow privacy-by-design principles: data minimisation, on-device processing wherever possible, encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) for any network feature, and regular dependency patching. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but the most effective safeguard in IELTS Prep is structural — we simply do not collect what we do not need.
8. Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the App, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
